Buhari Seeks Confirmation Of His Media Aide, Three Others As INEC Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of his Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, for screening and confirmation as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing Delta State.

Citynews Nigeria reports that Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this while reading President Buhari’s letter of request at plenary  of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

Onochie is from Delta state.

Onochie is known for his wild and controversial takes on issues of national interest. She was recently embroiled in a squabble with Nigeria music sensation, Wizkid, amid the protest against police brutality and call for dissolution of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS)

Also nominated for confirmation as National Commissioners of INEC are: Prof. Mohammed Sani representing Katsina; Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti) and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa)

Buhari said the nomination was in line with the dictate of Paragraph 14 of part 1F of the First Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.

The president’s request for confirmation of the nominees will be referred to the appropriate committees to handle on Wednesday.
